The three vitamins included in this free choice supplement are brought together to support normal growth and function of eyes, bones, muscles and the immune system. This supplement is recommended when animals are fed older hay that has lost its vitamin content. It is also helpful when grass/pasture is lush and may be high in nitrates.
Vitamin A is vital to the maintenance of good vision (particularly at night). It is also an important aspect in bone and muscle growth of young horses, reproduction, and helps maintain healthy skin. Symptoms of Vitamin A deficiency may include decreased appetite, weight loss, night blindness, excessive tear production, a dull hair coat, anemia, and seizures (in severe cases).
Vitamin D helps to increase the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from the digestive tract, which enhances bone density. This is key to proper bone growth and bone maintenance. A Vitamin D deficiency may result in weakened bones, slower growth, reduced feed intake, as well as irregular formation of the growth plates. Stall confinement increases the need for Vitamin D due to lack of adequate sunlight.
The most important features of Vitamin E are that it helps to boost the immune system, assists in preventing white muscle disease and encourages free radical scavenging (anti-oxidant). Vitamin E helps to promote healthy nerve function and immune response. It is also essential for energy production, DNA synthesis and the absorption and storage of Vitamin A.
